Shubhanshu Shukla’s Space Journey: A Triumph for Atmanirbhar and Vishwabandhu Bharat, Says Jitendra Singh

New Delhi: Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s recent space journey marks a significant moment for India, demonstrating the country’s commitment to self-reliance in space exploration. Union Minister Jitendra Singh shared this insight during an ISRO press conference, where he introduced Shukla and Group Captain Prasanth B. Nair as the first Indian-origin astronauts for the upcoming Gaganyaan mission.

Shukla made history by being the first Indian to visit the International Space Station on June 26 while participating in Axiom Space’s Mission 4. Singh highlighted that this achievement reflects key values promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi: “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) and “Vishwa Bandhu Bharat” (world brotherhood).

The mission incorporated fully indigenous technologies, showcasing India’s expertise through collaborations with institutions like the Department of Biotechnology, IISc Bengaluru, and various IITs. Singh emphasized that while the astronaut’s work was rooted in Indian technology, the results would benefit all of humanity. This global perspective enhances India’s reputation in space research.

Shukla spoke about the joy of inspiring young Indians to consider a future in space. After his live interactions from space, he noted that many children expressed a desire to become astronauts. “That’s the biggest success—to see kids dreaming of space,” he said, encouraging students to believe in their potential to explore outer space.

Nair echoed these sentiments, pointing out that India’s inclusive approach to space exploration underscores our shared humanity. He believes that the future of innovation lies in space and related technologies.

Recent studies indicate that interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) careers among Indian youth is on the rise, reflecting a broader trend towards looking at space as a viable career path.
