Loudonville, NY — The Siena basketball teams are joining forces to fight food insecurity in the Capital Region. They’re hosting food drives at their upcoming home games and teaming up with the Regional Food Bank to help those in need.
Fans are encouraged to bring five canned goods during the men’s game against Sacred Heart on Thursday, January 16, at 7 PM at MVP Arena. There’s also a chance to donate during the women’s game against Merrimack on Saturday, January 18, at 2 PM at UHY Center on campus.
As a thank-you, anyone who donates will receive a $5 voucher for a ticket to a future Siena basketball game the next season, while supplies last. Cash donations are warmly welcomed too.
The Regional Food Bank will collect items until the second half of each game. You can drop off donations at collection points in the MVP lobby Atrium, the concourse between sections 104 and 105, or in the UHY Center lobby.
They’re looking for healthy essentials like soup, cereal, oatmeal, and 100% juice. Personal hygiene items, like shampoo, soap, deodorant, and toilet paper are also important. Culturally relevant foods such as beans, rice, and masa flour are highly requested.
If you prefer to help out financially, you can make a donation online or give cash at the games. Every dollar provides four meals for those in need across 23 counties in northeastern New York.
