Siena Men’s Lacrosse: Preseason Hype and Stellar Players
Siena Men’s Lacrosse has once again been named the top team in the MAAC for the 2026 season. This marks their third year in a row as preseason favorites, according to a vote by conference head coaches. The Saints topped the poll with 74 votes, including five first-place nods. Right behind them are Marist with 72 votes and Sacred Heart with 70.
Siena has a rich history in the MAAC, appearing in eight championship games—the most in the league’s history. Last season, they had an impressive overall record of 11-5, with a 7-1 record in conference play. Their postseason journey was thrilling, featuring a nail-biting win against Marist before besting Sacred Heart to claim the championship.
Four Siena players received spots on the Preseason All-MAAC team. Logan Banek, a standout faceoff specialist, was a unanimous choice. Banek shone bright last season, leading the league in face-off wins with 129 and achieving a remarkable .658 win percentage in conference games. He was also named MAAC Rookie of the Year.
Patrick Radomski, a junior attacker, was another key player, finishing last season with 32 goals and 47 points, ranking fifth in the conference. His ability to score game-winning goals made him a crucial asset for his team.
Senior Travis Fry and defensive midfielder Liam Lennon also made their mark. Fry consistently scored, netting at least one point in 14 games. Lennon showcased his versatility with 18 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
As the season approaches, Siena will kick off their campaign on February 7 against No. 17 Boston University. Fans are excited to see if the Saints can continue their winning ways.
In the broader context of men’s lacrosse, the sport has seen a significant uptick in popularity in recent years. Recent surveys show that participation in lacrosse at the youth and collegiate levels has increased by over 20% in the last decade. This growth can be attributed to the sport’s fast-paced nature and accessibility, making it a favorite among new fans.
As Siena gears up for another season, the excitement is palpable among players and supporters alike. With a strong roster and the determination to defend their title, the Saints are set to make waves in 2026.
