Sikandar Box Office Update: Salman Khan’s Action Film Faces Challenges on Day 9 – What’s Next?

Salman Khan’s latest film, Sikandar, was released during Eid but has not found the success many hoped for. Despite having a huge fan base, the movie’s box office performance has faded quickly. Within the first eight days, it earned around ₹102.50 crore. However, the earnings took a notable dip on the ninth day.

The action film began strong, pulling in ₹26 crores on its opening Sunday and reaching ₹29 crores on Monday, according to the industry website Sacnilk. Yet, after that initial boost, ticket sales declined sharply.

Occupancy rates tell a similar story. On its ninth day, Sikandar had a Hindi occupancy rate of just 7.02%. The highest attendance came from Mumbai, which showed a rate of 9.0% across 580 showings. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai also performed reasonably well, with Chennai leading at 10.50%. In contrast, markets like NCR, Ahmedabad, and Surat lagged behind, recording occupancy rates of 6.75%, 5.50%, and 4.00%, respectively.

Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, Sikandar features a cast that includes Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Agarwal, Suniel Shetty, and Prateik Babbar. Despite being anticipated, critics have not given it a favorable response. A review from Hindustan Times noted that while Salman Khan remains impressive in action sequences, the overall execution of the film weakens his performance. Rashmika’s dialogue delivery also received criticism, leaving many fans disappointed.

Interestingly, this film faced challenges before its release. It leaked online hours ahead of its theatrical debut, which could have affected its box office performance.

The current situation reflects a growing concern in the Indian film industry, where big-budget films often struggle despite high expectations. Recent data from the Motion Picture Association showed that 2023 saw a drop in box office revenues for major releases, even as streaming platforms gained popularity. As audiences shift their viewing habits, filmmakers are under pressure to create content that not only excites but also keeps viewers engaged in theaters.
