The Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM) has teamed up with the University of Maryland to help students become doctors more easily. This partnership is part of the MSOM Guaranteed Interview Pathways Program, designed to support students through their medical journey.
Chanté Richardson, the Associate Dean of Student Services and Community Engagement at MSOM, explains that students in the program get guaranteed interviews for MSOM’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. This means reduced stress and better chances of admission for those enrolled in partner institutions.
But that’s not all. Participants gain early access to essential resources. For instance, they can attend MCAT preparation workshops and shadow current D.O. students. These tools are aimed at preparing them for medical school and beyond.
The Pathways Program is available to undergrads and recent graduates from several schools, including Frostburg State University and Susquehanna University. To qualify, students must be in good academic standing and have a strong letter of recommendation.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to train physicians who are equipped to meet the needs of diverse communities, especially those that are underserved. According to a recent report by the Association of American Medical Colleges, there is a growing need for more healthcare providers in these areas, emphasizing the importance of programs like this.
