After nine years of serving delicious Hawaiian BBQ in brick-and-mortar locations, Solid Grindz is returning to its food truck roots. The Tucson-based restaurant announced on its Facebook page that it will officially close its doors on June 21, moving its operations to the bar Just 1 More at 6255 E. Golf Links Road.
In their heartfelt message, they expressed gratitude for the support from the Tucson community. “It’s been an honor to serve you,” the post stated, reflecting on the challenges faced, including the pandemic.
Solid Grindz began its journey as a food truck in 2014 before opening its first restaurant in 2016 at the old Snow Peas Modern Asian Kitchen. Over the years, they moved to different locations, with their last spot being at the current address on Golf Links Road.
The menu boasted beloved items like katsu chicken, kalua pulled pork, and poke bowls. As they transition back to food trucks named Maui and Pua, the owners promise to bring these flavors directly to neighborhoods around Tucson.
They also mentioned that catering services would continue and that poke bowls will still be available at the Davis-Monthan Base Exchange.
What’s Next for Solid Grindz?
Experts say that returning to a food truck model can be a smart move, especially in today’s dining landscape. Many small businesses are focusing on mobility and lower overhead costs. According to the National Restaurant Association, food trucks have gained popularity, with more than 23,000 operating in the U.S. as of 2021. This growing trend allows restaurants to reach customers directly and adapt to various locations.
Returning to food trucks could also provide Solid Grindz with new opportunities. With events like food festivals and local markets booming, they could access a larger audience.
Overall, the change marks a return to their beginnings, allowing Solid Grindz to reconnect with their loyal customers while continuing to share their love for Hawaiian cuisine.
