Sony’s Peter Kang Set for Promotion as Josh Greenstein Exits: What This Means for the Future of Sony Productions

Rumors are swirling around Sony’s Columbia Pictures. Peter Kang, currently the EVP Production, might be stepping up to become President of Production. This comes as Josh Greenstein, co-President of the Sony Motion Picture Group, is in talks to join Paramount’s Skydance.

Kang’s journey has been impressive. He joined Sony in March 2019 after working at Lionsgate, where he co-led production. During his time there, he was behind hits like A Simple Favor. Before Lionsgate, he spent years at Paramount, helping to make Top Gun: Maverick, which is now one of Tom Cruise’s biggest successes, grossing nearly $1.5 billion globally.

Kang also has a long history with 20th Century Fox, where he played a key role in reviving the Planet of the Apes series. He brought several popular book adaptations to the screen, including Gone Girl and The Maze Runner.

Sony has some exciting projects coming up. Titles like Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing and a comedic reboot of Anaconda, starring Jack Black, are set for release soon. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which begins production next month, is highly anticipated. Earlier this year, Sony also saw success with 28 Years Later, a horror film that earned around $150 million globally.
