On Monday, South Korea’s industry ministry explored ways to strengthen cooperation with Israel and Japan. The focus is on boosting advancements in high-tech areas like artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
Je Kyung-hee, the Director General for Technology Policy, met virtually with Alon Stopel, Israel’s chief scientist. They reviewed ongoing joint research. Since 2001, South Korea and Israel have partnered through the Korea-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation.
This foundation has been investing $8 million a year since 2022 to support collaborative research projects. Currently, there are 16 projects funded, with plans to add seven more this year.
South Korea’s strength in manufacturing, combined with Israel’s expertise in cybersecurity and AI, is expected to yield significant benefits for both nations.
In a separate meeting in Seoul, Je also spoke with Jingo Kikukawa, Japan’s director for innovation and environment. They discussed enhancing technological ties, especially in light of the incoming U.S. administration.
The two officials highlighted the need for strong collaboration to keep up with fast-changing industrial technologies and promised to explore new areas for cooperation.
