South University recently celebrated a significant milestone at its Orlando campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This event marked the university’s growing role in healthcare education and workforce development in Central Florida.
South University leaders and Andrew Cole, the President and CEO of the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the university’s efforts to meet regional healthcare needs. They emphasized how high-quality academic programs and local collaborations play a crucial part in improving the community’s health services.
Since opening in 2021 at 5900 Lake Ellenor Drive, SU Orlando has become a key hub for healthcare education. It offers important programs in Allied Health Science, Nursing, Public Health, and Anesthesia Science. In a notable achievement, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates boasted a 100 percent pass rate for the NCLEX exam in 2024. Additionally, the first class of Anesthesiologist Assistant students achieved a perfect score on the NCCAA exam in 2025.
The demand for certified anesthesiologist assistants is on the rise, and South University responded by launching the Master of Medical Science in Anesthesia Science program in 2023. This program is among the few available in Central Florida, showing the university’s commitment to offering targeted, high-quality education that aligns with job market needs.
Cole expressed pride in recognizing South University as a key member of the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce. He highlighted their role in strengthening the healthcare workforce, which provides essential talent for local hospitals and enhances community health.
Since opening, SU Orlando has built strong ties with major healthcare providers like AdventHealth, Orlando Health, and the Orlando VA Medical Center. These partnerships help place graduates in vital positions throughout the region.
Dr. Steven K. Yoho, Chancellor of South University, shared his gratitude for community partners, noting that the Orlando campus embodies the university’s mission to serve and lead effectively.
According to a recent report by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the need for nursing professionals will continue to grow, with a projected shortage of more than 1 million registered nurses by 2030. This highlights the importance of institutions like South University in preparing a skilled workforce.
