Students at Southern Adventist University’s School of Business are making waves in various competitions. Their hard work is paying off as they dive into hands-on projects that mimic real-world business challenges.

In one exciting competition, a team from Southern managed to snag the top spot in their local launch simulation for the MGMT 364 International Business course. They did even better on the global stage, ranking in the top 1% out of over 1,000,000 teams worldwide in 2024.
Southern didn’t stop there. In another contest, three of their teams entered the GLO-BUS business strategy simulations and earned a spot as Global Top 50 Performers among 685 teams from 58 institutions around the world during the competition held from June 17-23, 2024.
Their finance students also showcased their skills by placing second out of ten colleges in the Greater Tennessee Chartered Financial Analyst Institute Research Challenge last year. Senior finance major Fabian Lubis reflected on his experience during this challenge, noting its impact on his skills. "The competition pushed me to think critically and communicate complex ideas effectively. It truly tested what I learned in class," he said.
Most recently, Southern participated in the HSI Battle of the Brains, a pitch competition for Hispanic-serving institutions, for the first time in Fall 2024. Their team made it to the finals alongside six other schools after presenting creative solutions to a business problem posed at the event.
Excitingly, these opportunities are supported by the university’s $20 million School of Business Leadership and Innovation Campaign. This initiative funds a new building and various programs that enhance student experiences in fields like business and finance. With all this activity, it’s clear Southern’s School of Business is not just about classroom learning. It emphasizes practice, teamwork, and real-world application, preparing students for their futures.
