Southern Connecticut Women’s Swimming and Diving took on Pace University in a recent Northeast 10 conference meet, securing a solid win with a score of 163-120.
The day kicked off with the 200-Yard Medley Relay, where Southern Connecticut’s team, including Abby Lyons, Ally Quitos, Julia Pitchell, and Molly Kennedy, clinched first place with a time of 1:54.15. Another relay team from Southern, featuring Zoe McNeill, Ellyn Baker, Paola Castillo, and Emily Denise, came in third.
In individual events, Molly Kennedy continued to shine, winning the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:58.69. Paola Castillo followed closely, finishing second at 2:01.94. In the 1000-Yard Freestyle, Sierra DuCharme secured second place with a time of 11:09.95, alongside Claire Hanna in third at 11:13.81.
Reina Loiacano performed well in the 100-Yard Backstroke, securing second with a time of 1:04.26, with Sara Roney and Emma St Hillaire also placing well in that event. In the 100-Yard Breaststroke, Ally Quitos took first with a time of 1:11.19.
Jasmine Uricchio had a notable win in the 200-Yard Butterfly, clocking in at 2:15.05, while Lexi Dominguez excelled in diving, winning both the 1 Meter and 3 Meter events.
In other results, Baker won the 200-Yard Breaststroke at 2:31.77, and Castillo had another strong showing in the 500-Yard Freestyle, finishing first with a time of 5:24.69.
Looking ahead, the team will be competing at home against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on January 9 at 6 PM.
This victory not only highlights the team’s strong performance but also their continuous growth in the sport. According to a recent NCAA report, colleges are seeing increased participation in women’s swimming, signaling a positive trend in female sports engagement.
