Update June 4, 2:00 p.m. EDT: SpaceX has changed the liftoff time.
SpaceX is ready for a midweek launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The upcoming mission, Starlink 11-22, marks the company’s 500th orbital flight with its Falcon rockets, including Falcon 1, Falcon 9, and Falcon Heavy.
Teams aim to launch the Falcon 9 rocket at 4:40 p.m. PDT (7:40 p.m. EDT, 2340 UTC) on Wednesday. Notably, this also marks the 15th anniversary of the very first Falcon 9 launch.
This year continues to be a big one for SpaceX, with this launch being their 50th mission to support the Starlink satellite network. The Falcon 9 first stage booster, designated B1063, will be flying for the 26th time. It has previously carried out diverse missions, including some for the National Reconnaissance Office and NASA.
Approximately eight minutes post-launch, B1063 will attempt to land on the droneship, ‘Of Course I Still Love You.’ If successful, this will be the 134th landing on this vessel and the 457th booster landing overall.
According to a recent NASA report, SpaceX’s frequent launches have significantly lowered the cost of satellite deployment. This rapid progress in commercial space travel has sparked renewed interest in the space industry. Businesses are now able to explore opportunities like never before, and many startups are leveraging SpaceX’s achievements to innovate.
Social media buzz around these launches reflects excitement and pride in space exploration, showcasing the cultural impact of these missions. Users often share livestream links and reactions during the countdown, capturing a sense of community among space enthusiasts. The evolution of SpaceX highlights a fascinating period in the history of aerospace, paving the way for future technologies and endeavors.
