“This is the biggest time save discovered in any Game Boy Pokémon game since RNG manipulation nearly a decade ago,” said speedrunner Gunnermaniac in a YouTube video. “This is huge.”
Gunnermaniac holds the record for clearing the Elite 4 Round 2 category, a challenging addition to the game that requires capturing at least 60 unique Pokémon. This new time skip saves 2.68 seconds per catch, which might seem small. But in the world of speedrunning, those seconds add up fast.
