Speedrunner Uncovers Game-Changing Glitch in Pokémon Switch Port That Will Blow Your Mind!

Pokémon has a devoted following, especially in the speedrunning community. This enduring series has flaws in its coding that even casual gamers notice. Speedrunners love to find any glitch or exploit, and a recent discovery in the Switch port of Pokémon FireRed has reignited interest in record-breaking runs.

Released for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, this updated version invites speedrunners to explore new possibilities. The biggest find came from Swiss runner iamClemi. While attempting to get a powerful Charmander from Professor Oak, he accidentally pressed the L button, which is larger on the Switch than on the original Game Boy Advance. This opened a help menu, but also silenced crucial sound cues in the game. Although it didn’t save time immediately, it sparked curiosity.

This glitch effectively mutes several sound prompts throughout gameplay. When you pick up items or heal at Pokémon Centers, the usual sounds are missing. More importantly, when capturing wild Pokémon, the game skips the typical pause for celebratory music, fast-tracking players to the Pokédex entry.

“This is the biggest time save discovered in any Game Boy Pokémon game since RNG manipulation nearly a decade ago,” said speedrunner Gunnermaniac in a YouTube video. “This is huge.”

Gunnermaniac holds the record for clearing the Elite 4 Round 2 category, a challenging addition to the game that requires capturing at least 60 unique Pokémon. This new time skip saves 2.68 seconds per catch, which might seem small. But in the world of speedrunning, those seconds add up fast. Gunnermaniac recognizes that this new glitch could put his record at risk, adding excitement to the community.

Speedrunning culture thrives on findings like these. A survey conducted in 2023 showed that nearly 60% of gamers are intrigued by speedrunning tips, indicating a growing interest in efficient gameplay. With platforms like Twitch and YouTube, speedrunners often share strategies, updates, and records, inspiring even more players to join in.

This new glitch not only refreshes Pokémon FireRed but also illustrates the dynamic nature of gaming. With each update or port, old games can reveal new secrets, keeping them relevant and exciting for both new and veteran players.
