It was a stunning fall day in Hopkinsville. The sun was shining, and the air had a crisp chill perfect for outdoor fun. At Founders Square, the community gathered for the Military Affairs Committee’s Chili Cook-Off, ready to taste some delicious chili and cast their votes.
Sixteen teams participated, each eager to snag the title of grand champion. Cooking started bright and early, and soon, the rich aroma of chili filled the air. Lively music and laughter added to the festive atmosphere, while families and friends enjoyed games together.
MAC Director Shannon Lane was thrilled with the turnout. “We couldn’t have asked for better weather. This event is all about bringing people together,” she shared. The event not only celebrates community spirit but also raises funds to support military families living in the area.
All the proceeds from the cook-off directly benefit the MAC’s mission, which focuses on advocating for service members and their loved ones. According to a recent survey from the Pew Research Center, 70% of Americans support initiatives that help military families, highlighting the importance of such events.
Amid all the fantastic chili, awards were given. The Hopkinsville Fire Department bagged third place, while the Walmart Distribution Center took second. The top prize went to Edward Jones, but the grand champion was the Christian County Sheriff’s Department and the Christian County Judge Executive’s Office, which was also voted the Crowd Favorite.
Events like this bring communities closer and remind us of the strength we find in support of our military. It’s a great way to enjoy good food while honoring those who serve.
