Thank you for your commitment to a healthier planet!
Every day, the current administration brings new challenges to our environment. Clean water, safe food, and a livable climate are at risk. Yet, thanks to your support and determination, we’re making significant strides in protecting our future.
Here’s a look at recent victories we’ve achieved together.
Stopping Data Centers
Last year, we made headlines by calling for a stop to the rapid, unchecked growth of AI data centers. These facilities consume enormous amounts of energy and water. In Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, we successfully halted Project Hazelnut, which planned to build 15 resource-heavy data centers on over 1,280 acres. Our push for a nationwide moratorium has gained traction, with more than 230 organizations rallying behind us in Congress.California’s Election Response Act
In November, California voters passed Prop 50—the Election Rigging Response Act. This legislation was crucial in countering attempts to redraw district lines for political gain. It is expected to help Democrats gain congressional seats, balancing out efforts seen in Texas.Microplastics Monitoring
A group of seven governors, led by former New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, petitioned the EPA to monitor microplastics in our drinking water. If approved, this could lead to significant improvements in water safety, reflecting growing public concern about environmental pollution.Protecting Communities from Fracking
In Pennsylvania, the Crafton Borough Council passed new zoning laws to guard residents from the harmful effects of fracking. This move signals a shift towards more protective local policies as communities combat the fossil fuel industry.Climate Damage Study in Maryland
Recently, Maryland’s legislature moved forward with a study to assess the economic impacts of climate change. This initiative aims to hold polluters accountable, ensuring they contribute to repairing the damages they cause.Ending Costly Gas Subsidies in New York
New York has taken a major step by repealing a rule requiring ratepayers to subsidize expensive gas connections. This change is projected to save residents around $600 million each year, an essential win for both the environment and taxpayers.Pausing USDA Funds for Factory Farms
In February, the USDA paused funding for biogas digesters in factory farms. This decision aligns with our advocacy against systems that often worsen pollution instead of alleviating it, emphasizing our ongoing fight for cleaner farming practices.Safeguarding New Mexico’s Clean Transportation Program
We successfully urged New Mexico to incorporate vital protections in its Clean Transportation Fuel Program. These measures prevent the program from inadvertently promoting factory farms, ensuring a more sustainable approach to transportation fuels.
These victories reflect the power of our collective action. It’s through your engagement and support that we continue to defend our environment and advocate for healthier communities. Together, we are building a brighter future for all.
