Spring Forward: Discover the Iconic New York Clocks Changing Time this Season!

Good morning! It’s Friday, and this weekend marks the start of daylight saving time – the time when we “spring forward.” Let’s see how this change impacts some iconic clocks in New York City.

In places like hotels and office buildings, the time change will be easy to spot. Big clocks on the outside show everyone when the time shifts. But what most people don’t see is the behind-the-scenes effort that keeps these clocks running smoothly.

This is particularly true of a famous clock located in a hotel high above East 24th Street, where rooms cost around $1,331 a night. Guests don’t have access to a special locked door that hides the clock’s inner workings. Inside that room, there are large gears that need regular oiling to function properly.

This clock belongs to the building that was once home to the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. Now, it has a modern electronic system that automatically moves the clock’s hands forward at 2 a.m. on Sunday, when daylight saving time officially begins. This means there’s no need for a night watchman to do the job anymore.

The time change can seem small, but it affects our daily lives in big ways. From our schedules to our routines, it’s noticeable when the clock changes. So as we move our clocks forward, it’s a good reminder of how time keeps moving, whether we notice it or not.
