Boston University’s lightweight rowing team kicked off its spring season on March 21 with an exciting race against Boston College on the Charles River. The day marked a special occasion as BU claimed victory in the Varsity 8 race, securing the Gummy Bear Bowl trophy for the third year in a row.
Despite overcast skies and chilly temperatures in the low to mid-40s, the conditions were fairly smooth, making for a good racing experience.
In the first race, the Varsity 8, coxed by Mira Saldanha and stroked by Caroline Burchette, faced a tight competition. As the teams approached the finish line, BU surged ahead, completing the race in 7:07.5, just a couple of seats in front of Boston College at 7:09.7.
Next, BU’s Second Varsity 8, coxed by Amna Rezvi and stroked by Mia Seibert, took on two Boston College crews. Though they put up a good fight, they finished six seats behind the Eagles’ 2V, finishing at 7:04.0, which was still ahead of Boston College’s 3V.
The final race of the day featured BU’s Varsity 4, coxed by Lylah Nag and stroked by Sidra Sanders. They came in second with a time of 7:59.8, trailing Boston College’s top crew by a full length.
Looking ahead, BU will take a break before going against MIT’s openweight teams on April 4.
