The University of Notre Dame recently held its Spring 2026 Staff Town Hall, featuring three forums for staff members to gather insights and updates. The event aimed to address questions previously submitted by staff, enhancing communication within the university.
The day began with Heather Christophersen, Vice President for Human Resources, sharing key announcements. Notably, the university is redesigning its Self-Service Center, aimed at improving access to HR-related queries, and launching a performance management pilot for staff.
Next up was Executive Vice President Shannon Cullinan, who honored ten long-serving staff members celebrating 40 to 45 years at Notre Dame. He highlighted that these ten individuals collectively represent a remarkable 425 years of service.
Cullinan then addressed the critical topic of undergraduate affordability. Tuition at Notre Dame exceeds $69,000, but after scholarships, the average net tuition is significantly lower at about $8,389. “Half the students here rely on need-based financial aid. This number often gets lost in discussions,” he explained, urging everyone to understand the true cost barriers faced by many students.
The town hall also discussed ongoing campus developments, including the new Coyle and Grojean Halls, set to open in August and accommodate over 500 students. The renovation of South Dining Hall was also mentioned, promising a better experience for students.
A highlight of the event was the announcement of the Veldman Family Psychology Clinic, which will offer crucial mental health services to the community. Cullinan emphasized the importance of mental health support, saying, “We all know someone who could use help.”
The clinic, which is expected to open doors soon, will focus on research, clinical services, and training. Jennifer Burke Lefever, the managing director, noted that the center aims to blend research and practical support, making it unique. It will also have state-of-the-art facilities, including an fMRI machine to facilitate advanced studies on mental health.
As the town hall concluded, Cullinan expressed appreciation for the staff’s hard work, saying, “Thank you for all that you do.”
