Springport Schools Partners with Spring Arbor University for Seamless Automatic Admission: A Pathway to Higher Education

Springport Schools in Michigan has taken a big step toward helping students prepare for college. They’ve recently joined Spring Arbor University’s new Deep Roots Direct Admission Program, set to launch in 2026. With this program, seniors who meet certain qualifications will get automatic acceptance into the university.

Terry Sedlar, the superintendent of Springport Public Schools, expressed his excitement about the partnership. He emphasized that this program supports their commitment to student success. “Every student deserves the chance to further their education and be part of a supportive community,” he said.

This initiative aims to make the leap from high school to college smoother. It also strengthens community ties and promotes personal growth in faith and education. To qualify for automatic admission, students need to graduate with at least a 3.0 GPA. Those who have slightly lower grades can still apply, but their applications will undergo extra review.

Marla Sanford, Spring Arbor University’s Vice President of Enrollment and Marketing, shared her thoughts on the program. “By collaborating with schools like Springport, we provide a simple path for local students to pursue a quality degree right in their hometown,” she said. “We’re here to support their academic and personal growth.”

Other schools in the area, like Jackson Public Schools and Grass Lake Public Schools, have also joined the program. This trend shows a growing commitment to making college accessible for more students in the Midwest.

In recent years, the idea of direct admission programs has gained traction, as many believe they can boost college enrollment and retention rates. According to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics, about 69% of high school graduates enrolled in college in 2021, highlighting the ongoing need for supportive pathways.

Spring Arbor University, located just west of Jackson, is a Christian liberal arts institution with a focus on holistic education. This program aligns well with its mission to support students in all aspects of their lives.

These initiatives highlight the importance of community partnerships in education, showing that with collaboration, students can achieve their dreams. For ongoing local updates, check out the Jackson news page for more stories like this.
