The St. John’s men’s tennis team delivered an impressive 4-0 win against VCU at Cunningham Park. This victory brings their season record to 6-1 and marks their third consecutive win.
In doubles, the pairing of Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy opened strong, winning 6-1 against Patrik Petera and Kostiantyn Mantach on court three. Following them, Armando Sotelo and Taichi Wakamatsu mirrored that success with another 6-1 win, this time against Erwann Bouchet and Mats Bredschneijder on court one, clinching the doubles point for St. John’s.
With a 1-0 lead, Agynskyy continued to shine in singles, defeating Bouchet in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, which pushed their advantage to 2-0. On court two, David Petrovic made a comeback after losing the first set, securing a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory against Nicolo Consonni.
Radomir Tomic put the match away for St. John’s with a determined three-set win over Bredschneijder. He faced an initial setback, losing the first set 0-6 but rallied to win 6-3, 6-2.
With this win, the all-time series between St. John’s and VCU now stands at 2-2 since 2012.

Looking ahead, the team’s match against Penn was postponed due to bad weather. They will now meet on March 25 in Philadelphia, with the start time yet to be confirmed. After that, St. John’s will head to Cleveland State on February 27 for a scheduled 6 p.m. match.
