St. Lawrence University Athlete Triumphs: Claims National Championship Title!

St. Lawrence University junior Nick Lyndaker recently became an NCAA Division 3 National Champion, completing the mile in just over four minutes. The excitement of this achievement was palpable for him. "It was crazy, yeah, pure joy," he said. This win marks a significant moment for the university, as it’s the first time a St. Lawrence men’s runner has claimed a national title since 1987.

Nick attributes a lot of his success to his teammates. "You can’t do anything without the team. It’s everything," he explained. Having a supportive group to train with makes a big difference in the world of competitive sports.

Reflecting on our high school days, I remember how Nick was always a step ahead of me. Out of curiosity, I invited him to run a lap with me. I pushed myself hard, but he still maintained his mile pace effortlessly. It’s impressive; he runs about 70 miles a week in training.

John Newman, Nick’s coach, has a lot of faith in him. “He’s consistent and hardworking,” he shared. Newman appreciates how Nick often anticipates race strategies even before he can advise him. This level of awareness is crucial at competitive levels.

As indoor track season wraps up, Lyndaker is excited for the outdoor events ahead. Many young athletes are making their mark in track and field. According to a recent survey by the NCAA, participation in college track and field has been on the rise, which reflects the growing interest in track as a sport.

With the support of his team and his relentless drive, it sounds like we’ll be hearing more from Nick Lyndaker in the future. For anyone following college athletics, this is a story worth watching as he continues to strive for excellence on the track.
