Stagecoach has received recognition once again for its commitment to climate transparency and sustainability from CDP, a respected global environmental nonprofit. The company earned an A- for its climate change policies and a B for water security, holding these ratings for the second year in a row.
CDP is known for its independent system that evaluates how transparent companies are about their climate impacts. In 2025, it assessed nearly 20,000 companies based on responses to its rigorous questionnaire. Their scoring system, which ranges from A to D-, considers how ambitious a company is regarding its sustainability targets and actions.
Greg Ritt, Stagecoach’s Group Head of Sustainability, emphasizes the importance of CDP’s ratings. “Maintaining our A- and B ratings is a tremendous achievement. It confirms we are headed in the right direction,” he says. He highlights that Stagecoach has already transitioned over 15% of its bus fleet to electric vehicles and aims for a fully zero-emission fleet by 2035.
In addition to its efforts, Stagecoach collaborates with its suppliers to enhance their sustainability practices. For instance, it will relaunch its Sustainable Suppliers Trading program in 2026, demonstrating a commitment to collective progress in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ideals.
The significance of CDP’s ratings goes beyond individual companies. Sherry Madera, CDP’s Chief Executive, points out that a strong score signifies a company’s dedication to data quality. This, in turn, helps businesses make environmentally friendly economic choices, which can improve their reputations and financial resilience.
Interestingly, the global interest in environmental impacts is growing. In 2025, 640 investors with $127 trillion in assets asked CDP to collect data on these issues, underlining the demand for transparency in corporate environmental practices.
As companies like Stagecoach take steps to address climate concerns, public interest and social media trends show a rising awareness about sustainability. Many people are now more inclined to support businesses that prioritize eco-friendly practices.
By focusing on transparency and collaboration, Stagecoach sets an important example for others in the industry, showcasing how sustainability can be woven into the fabric of business operations. For more about the ratings and sustainability efforts, visit CDP’s official site.
