Winfrey arrived via private jet at Marco Polo airport, followed closely by former football star Tom Brady. The couple had reached the Aman Hotel by water taxi earlier that day, with Sánchez stunning in a chic black-and-white gown.

Local activists from Extinction Rebellion raised concerns that the influx of celebrity guests is only exacerbating Venice’s ongoing struggles with overtourism. The wedding organizers reportedly shifted the venue to a more secure area due to threats of disruption, moving it away from the city center.

In defense of the event, Venice’s Mayor Luigi Brugnaro emphasized the city’s historical openness, reminding everyone that Venice has long welcomed various visitors—from popes to tourists. “No one can claim the right to decide who can enter or celebrate here,” he stated.

Interestingly, the wedding reflects a broader tension in Venice. The city, known for its beautiful canals and rich history, is facing issues linked to climate change. A study from the Venetian Institute of Science reported a 50% increase in flooding due to rising sea levels over the past decade.
