Starting Today: Train Fare Increases for Rajdhani and Vande Bharat – Discover Your New Ticket Prices!

Starting July 1, train ticket prices in India have increased, including for the popular Vande Bharat Express. This fare hike affects various classes, from AC to non-AC seating, as the Indian Railways aims to boost its infrastructure.

The new fare structure supports extensive upgrades across the railway system, which includes modernizing trains and redeveloping important stations through the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Fare Changes:

  • Vande Bharat, AC 3-tier, 2-tier, and First AC: Increase of 2 paise per kilometer
  • Sleeper Class and Ordinary Mail/Express Trains: Increase of 0.5 to 1 paise per kilometer
  • Second-class non-AC: Increase of 1 paise per kilometer
  • No change for non-AC unreserved journeys under 500 km

For longer trips, passengers can expect:

  • ₹10 increase for journeys between 1500–2500 km
  • ₹15 increase for journeys over 2500 km

Already booked tickets will not see these changes applied retroactively. Those who booked before July 1 can travel without worrying about additional charges.

Another major update is the introduction of Aadhaar OTP verification for Tatkal ticket bookings. This policy aims to reduce bulk ticket purchases and curb black-market sales, especially during busy travel seasons.

In addition to price hikes, the Railways has launched a new Passenger Reservation System (PRS). This upgrade can process over 1.5 lakh bookings per minute, a significant improvement from the previous capacity of 32,000 per minute.

This news has led to various reactions on social media. Many users express frustration over rising prices but recognize the need for better railway infrastructure. According to a recent survey by the Ministry of Railways, nearly 70% of passengers support fare increases if it leads to improved services and safety measures.

Despite the challenges, experts emphasize that investing in railway development is crucial for economic growth. As transportation networks improve, they can stimulate trade and connectivity across regions. In 2019, similar fare increases were implemented but faced backlash, leading to discussions about pricing transparency. Unfortunately, fare hikes can often overshadow the advancements in service and safety. Understanding this balance is essential for optimizing public transport.
