Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, claiming the platform is a dangerous place for children. The state’s Attorney General, Liz Murrill, argues that Roblox allows sexual predators to find and exploit kids. She states that the company prioritizes its growth and profit over the safety of its young users.
Roblox, which boasts over 111 million monthly users, has previously faced criticism over its safety measures. Just last month, a heartbreaking case arose in Iowa where a 13-year-old girl was allegedly lured by an adult predator on the site, leading to her kidnapping and trafficking.
Sheriff Jason Ard from Livingston Parish mentioned that his office has dealt with several Roblox-related cases. One involved a man using voice technology to masquerade as a young girl. As of now, no arrests have been made in these instances.
Murrill believes the platform should be permanently shut down unless significant changes occur. An email was sent to Roblox seeking their comment on the lawsuit.
While Roblox claims to have strict rules, such as preventing users from sharing personal information and monitoring chats, many find ways to bypass these safeguards. For instance, the platform does not require a robust age verification process during signup, which can lead to older individuals posing as children.
In response to rising concerns, Roblox has begun testing a new age verification feature. This includes asking users aged 13 to 17 to submit a video selfie to confirm their age before they can freely communicate with others.
Recently, Roblox announced the implementation of artificial intelligence to help identify early signs of child endangerment. In the first half of 2025 alone, this system reportedly led to 1,200 alerts of potential exploitation being sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Experts in child safety emphasize the importance of protecting children in online spaces. They argue that platforms like Roblox must take more responsibility to ensure user safety. As online gaming continues to grow, ongoing dialogue is crucial for creating a safer environment for young users.
