Stay Healthy This School Year: Laredo Health Officials Urge Timely Back-to-School Vaccinations Despite Limited Supply

LAREDO, Tex. – As the new school year approaches, the Laredo Health Department is reminding families to ensure their children are up to date on vaccinations. This year, the cancellation of “Operation Border Health,” which typically provides free immunizations and health services, has left many parents wondering where to turn for their children’s vaccine needs.

While the health department still offers essential vaccines, supplies are limited. Jaime Perez from the department explained, “Currently, we can only provide vaccines to un- and underinsured individuals because our private stock is depleted. The cost is $10 for kids and $20 for adults.”

The department operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parents can schedule appointments by calling directly or simply walk in, but it’s best to act quickly as demand is rising with the new school year right around the corner.

Vaccination is crucial. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), immunizing children helps protect not only them but also the broader community. An outbreak can affect schools and families, making timely vaccinations even more essential.
