The Honourable Chris Tibbs, the Minister of Environment, Conservation, and Climate Change, recently shared some important news regarding environmental assessments in Newfoundland and Labrador.
New Forestry Plan to Reduce Wildfire Risks
The Department of Forestry, Agriculture, and Lands plans to amend the Five-Year Forestry Operating Plan (2022–2026) for the Charlottetown area in Labrador. This change aims to lower wildfire risks by expanding the Charlottetown Domestic Cutting Block. The proposal involves about 2,233 hectares of forest land and allows for domestic wood cutting to help reduce fuel load around the community.

The amendment was officially registered on November 21, 2025. If you want to share your thoughts, the deadline for public comments is December 26, 2025. The minister will make a decision by January 5, 2026. Comments can be sent to EAProjectComments@gov.nl.ca.
