Negotiations between MU Health Care and Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield are still ongoing as they try to finalize a new contract. If they don’t come to an agreement by April 1, 2025, more than 90,000 patients could find themselves outside of Anthem’s network, which might complicate their health care access.
One of the main sticking points is the proposed rate increases. Anthem claims that MU Health Care is seeking a 39% rate hike over the next three years, a figure MU Health Care denies. According to MU Health Care’s COO, Tonya Johnson, that number was only a starting point. She mentioned they’ve adjusted their proposal to focus on a more manageable single-digit increase each year.
