The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for our area, prompting Delaware Governor Matt Meyer to declare a state of emergency. With snow and mixed precipitation expected over the weekend, the University of Delaware has announced changes to its operations for Monday, January 26, at the Newark campus.
For Monday, the Newark campus will suspend all operations. Only essential staff should come to work. Non-essential employees are not required to report. Essential personnel can park in university garages to assist with snow removal, and parking enforcement will be paused during this time.
All in-person classes are canceled. Instructors of Winter Session courses will notify students about possible virtual options or rescheduling. The priority is safety while maintaining academic continuity.
The university will keep an eye on the storm and will provide updates on future operations on UDaily as conditions change.
Transportation services are also suspended until further notice. For the latest on transportation, check the Transportation website or use the Shuttle app.
Residence halls and dining services will remain open. Students living on campus should ensure their windows are closed to prevent frozen pipes. The Caesar Rodney Dining Hall will operate as usual on Monday. For more on dining hours, visit the Dining Services website or check their Instagram account.
Everyone is advised to exercise caution while navigating the campus.
Other Campuses
All courses at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute are canceled on Monday. No in-person classes for the Associate in Arts Programs (AAP) are scheduled, and AAP staff do not need to report.
Administrative staff at the Georgetown and Lewes campuses will monitor weather conditions and update their communities accordingly.
Student Wellbeing
Appointments at Student Health Services, Sports Medicine, and the Center for Counseling and Student Development will be rescheduled. More information on 24/7 medical and crisis care support is available.
Campus facilities such as the Carpenter Sports Building, ice arenas, Morris Library, Student Centers, Wellbeing Center, Clayton Hall, and Barnes & Noble Bookstore will be closed on Monday.
Due to safety concerns, faculty, staff, and students should avoid risking travel. Employees facing challenges are encouraged to connect with their supervisors for guidance.
In summary, the university prioritizes safety while ensuring that necessary services remain available during this winter storm. Stay updated on weather developments and university operations through official channels.
