Steam Surges: Linux Gaming Hits a Milestone with 3% Market Share in October 2025!

Steam on Linux is making waves! According to the latest Steam Survey from October 2025, it has surpassed the 3% mark for the first time, reaching 3.05%. This is a significant jump of 0.41% from 2.00% in October 2024. The surge can be attributed to the popularity of Valve’s Steam Deck and improved support from Steam Play (Proton).

Historically, the only time Linux usage came close to this milestone was when Steam first launched on Linux about ten years ago, but back then, the overall user base was much smaller.

In the latest statistics, Windows still leads with 94.84%, dropping below 95% for the first time in a long while, while macOS remains at 2.11%. For context, SteamOS now holds about 27% of Linux installations, largely due to the Steam Deck’s success.

In terms of hardware, Intel gained a slight share, moving to 32.89%, while AMD remains dominant at 67.1%. For Windows users, Intel stands at 57.8% compared to AMD’s 42%.

These numbers are a testament to the growing appeal of Linux gaming. As the Steam user base expands, Steam on Linux is finally gaining the recognition it deserves.
