The Pittsburgh Steelers recently signed quarterback Will Howard, their sixth-round draft pick, to a four-year deal. Howard, previously with Ohio State, was chosen 185th overall.
“Adding Will to our quarterback room is exciting,” said offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. He praised Howard’s impressive background, highlighting his experience in major games. After meeting Howard at his Pro Day, Smith felt even more confident in his character and skills.
Howard faced a few anxious days waiting for the call on draft day. Looking back, he shared, “It’s not about when, it’s where." The Downingtown, Pennsylvania native trusted that the right team would choose him—and he believes the Steelers are that team. “I have immense respect for the Steelers. I’ve always hoped they would pick me. I feel truly blessed.”
In his college career, Howard played one season with the Buckeyes after starting at Kansas State. Throughout his college journey, he appeared in 50 games. He completed 767 of 1,202 passes, boasting a 63.8% completion rate, with 9,796 yards, 83 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions.
During his standout season at Ohio State, Howard started all 16 games, leading the team to a record-breaking 14 wins and a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship. He set several records, including a completion rate of 73% and eight games with at least 80% completions.
In 2024, he earned the title of Most Valuable Player in both the Cotton Bowl and the College Football Playoff National Championship against Notre Dame.
Before Ohio State, Howard began his college career at Kansas State, where he played four seasons and appeared in 34 games. He completed 458 of 779 passes for 5,786 yards and 48 touchdowns. In 2022, he led the Wildcats to a Big 12 Championship, with his 48 touchdown passes setting a school record.
