Belmont University’s Stefan Vedovelli Shines as a Scholar-Athlete
Stefan Vedovelli, a standout player in the men’s tennis team at Belmont University, has been named to the 2026 Academic All-District NCAA Division I Team by College Sports Communicators (CSC). This honor recognizes athletes who excel both in sports and academics, a testament to Vedovelli’s hard work on and off the court.
This award is part of the CSC Academic All-America program, which celebrates the best student-athletes across various divisions. Being chosen for the Academic All-District team opens the door for potential selection to the prestigious Academic All-America team.
In his second season with the Bruins, Vedovelli took a big step up in his performance. He moved from primarily playing at No. 5 singles last year to competing in the top three singles spots this season. The talented player from Mezzolombardo, Italy, racked up 12 singles wins, including a solid performance of 3-2 at No. 2 singles. In doubles play with Sabi Roi, he achieved a record of 9-8, contributing to the duo’s overall record of 16-12 for the year. Their efforts even earned them a national ranking of No. 89 in April.
Academically, Vedovelli is impressive, majoring in sport administration and holding a 3.51 grade point average. This combination of athletic and academic excellence is what makes him a valuable member of the Bruins.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must meet certain criteria. They need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, be sophomores or higher, and participate in 75% of their team’s competitions. Transfer students can qualify immediately if they satisfy the academic requirements.
This balance of athletic prowess and educational dedication reflects a growing trend in college sports, where academics play an increasingly crucial role. According to recent studies, student-athletes with higher GPAs tend to perform better in their sports. This is likely because being disciplined in one area, like academics, can carry over into athletics.
