Step Into the Wizarding World: HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Starts Filming for a 2027 Premiere!

Hogwarts is back in session!

HBO’s much-anticipated “Harry Potter” TV series has kicked off production at Warner Bros. Studios in the U.K. This comes nearly 14 years after the last movie, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” ended Harry’s story on the big screen.

We’ve gotten our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as Harry. He’s sporting round glasses and the classic Hogwarts uniform. He’s joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. They stood out among over 30,000 actors who auditioned last year.

Recent casting updates added Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Louise Brealey as Madam Hooch, and others. Excitingly, the series will land on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.

The show, led by Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod from “Succession,” will explore Harry’s journey as he discovers he’s a wizard, meets his friends, and faces off against Voldemort.

In addition to the main trio, many familiar faces will appear. John Lithgow will portray Dumbledore, and Paapa Essiedu will play Severus Snape. Each season will focus on one of the seven Harry Potter books, with filming for Season 1 expected to last until spring 2026.

Recent surveys show high excitement levels among fans. According to a 2023 study, 68% of Potter fans are eager to see how the series interprets the Hogwarts experience. This mix of fresh talent and beloved characters could usher in a new wave of Pottermania.

With changes in the industry since the original films, this series aims to bring the magic into the modern age, offering new perspectives while staying true to J.K. Rowling’s world. It aims not just to recapture what fans loved but to expand it for new viewers.
