Stephanie Venier Claims Super G Glory at Alpine World Championships as Lindsey Vonn Faces Early Exit

Stephanie Venier won the women’s Super G title at the 2025 Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach, Austria, on February 6th. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd, eager to cheer her on.

The weather was perfect for racing—sunny with a chill in the air at 0°C (32°F). The famous Zwölferkogel track, also known as the “Ulli Maier Course,” honored the legendary Austrian champion Ulrike Maier.

Venier navigated the course flawlessly, finishing with a time of 1:20:47. The grandstand erupted with cheers as she crossed the finish line, surrounded by waving Austrian flags.

The 31-year-old had previously won a silver medal in downhill skiing at the 2017 Championships. Her reaction showed a mix of joy and surprise every time her image appeared on the big screen, met with loud cheers from the crowd.

In her interview with German broadcaster ZDF, she shared her excitement: “Incredible. I can’t believe it. I raced for myself, but it’s great for the entire country. I felt great and pushed from start to finish.”

Federica Brignone of Italy took second place with a time of 1:20:57, marking her first Super G medal. Meanwhile, Lauren Macuga from the USA and Kajsa Vickhoff Lie from Norway finished together in third at 1:20:71.

Brignone reflected on her achievement: “I have never won a medal in Super G. That was my goal, and I’m so happy that I accomplished it. We also got gold in the team event. I’m very proud of our strong team.”
