He didn’t just joke; Colbert really did return to Only in Monroe less than 24 hours later, bringing along notable guests like Jack White and actors Steve Buscemi and Jeff Daniels.
“Hello and welcome to another episode of Only in Monroe. I’m guest host Stephen Colbert,” he told an unsuspecting audience. He shared that he had spent 11 years on The Late Show and joked about how long he felt off-screen after just 23 hours.
After some laughs and jokes about Monroe, Colbert introduced Jack White as his “music director.” Together, they sparked a hilarious back-and-forth, even placing a FaceTime call to Byron Allen, the new host stepping in for The Late Show.
Later, things took a humorous turn with a cooking segment featuring Jeff Daniels, where he taught Colbert how to make a pita sandwich using whatever random ingredients were available.
In a funny twist towards the end of the episode, they decided to burn their makeshift set in a nearby dumpster. Before doing so, Colbert called Eminem, who enthusiastically gave the green light: “You’re absolutely clear to burn that motherfucker down,” he said.
As the episode wrapped up, Colbert expressed gratitude for the years he spent on late-night shows, wrapping it up with, “Until we see each other again, I’ll be only here, only on Only in Monroe.”
