Stephen Curry Shines as Warriors Steal Game 3 Victory Over Rockets Amid Jimmy Butler’s Injury Absence

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — After a tough game, Stephen Curry leaned against his teammate Jimmy Butler. They were sharing a moment despite Butler being sidelined with an injury and dressed in a striking fur coat.

“That coat was something else,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr. “I thought he might be too hot in it.”

Butler, who couldn’t play in Game 3 against the Houston Rockets, watched as Curry led the Warriors to a 104-93 victory, giving them a 2-1 series lead. Curry shone with 36 points, adding nine assists and seven rebounds, and expressed his determination to step up in Butler’s absence.

Both players have dealt with injuries, including Butler’s pelvic issue and Curry’s recurring tailbone problems. Regardless of their uniform status, Curry values Butler’s support.

“His presence means a lot to us,” Curry noted. “He lifts everyone’s spirits, and we definitely needed that.”

As for Butler’s return? Coach Kerr remained cautious. “He’s day-to-day. Tomorrow is a day off, and we’ll see how he feels,” he said.

Butler had undergone an MRI after getting injured in Game 2. He fell hard while trying to catch a rebound, which forced him to leave the game. Despite being on the sidelines, his leadership was evident. Teammate Gary Payton II said, “We needed to step up in Jimmy’s absence, but we hope he’s back for Game 4.”

Kerr compared Butler’s basketball intelligence to that of Andre Iguodala. “He’s just so smart and communicates well,” Kerr said, acknowledging Butler’s impact, even from the bench. “He provided valuable insights to the guys.”

In Game 1, Butler scored 25 points, showcasing his skills and proving he is vital to the team. Since his arrival on February 8, the Warriors have thrived, boasting a 26-9 record. Coach Ime Udoka of the Rockets acknowledged the Warriors’ strength without Butler, indicating that the challenge remains significant. “They’re still dangerous, and we need to capitalize on our opportunities,” he stated.
