Stephon Castle of Spurs Takes Home the 2024-25 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year Award!

Stephon Castle, a guard for the San Antonio Spurs, has been awarded the Wilt Chamberlain Trophy as the Kia NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2024-25 season. This makes him the fourth player from the Spurs to win this honor, joining legends like David Robinson, Tim Duncan, and Victor Wembanyama. Notably, the Spurs are the first team to achieve back-to-back Rookie of the Year winners since the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2015.

During the season, Castle averaged 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 0.91 steals over 81 games. He led all rookies in points per game and also ranked well in assists and steals. Castle recorded an impressive total of 1,190 points, 74 steals, and 249 made free throws, all leading the first-year players.

Castle’s performance peaked after the All-Star break, with averages of 17.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists over 30 games. This stellar play earned him the title of Kia NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month twice during the season.

At the NBA All-Star 2025 event in San Francisco, Castle was named Most Valuable Player of the Castrol Rising Stars Challenge, showcasing his skills on a bigger stage.

The winner of the Rookie of the Year was determined by a global media panel of 100 voters, and the results were independently verified by Ernst & Young LLP.

For basketball fans, Castle’s rise is a story worth following. His success stands as a testament to the Spurs’ ability to develop young talent. As the NBA evolves, it’s exciting to see how rookies like Castle will shape the future of the league.
