Actor Steve Carell is stepping up to help high school seniors in Southern California impacted by recent wildfires. He announced that students from six Pasadena high schools can attend prom for free.

In an Instagram video, Carell explained that he’s partnering with Alice’s Kids charity. “If you’ve already bought your prom tickets, they’ll reimburse you,” he said. This offer is great news for students wanting to celebrate their achievements amidst the chaos caused by the fires.
These wildfires have wreaked havoc, destroying over 16,000 homes and claiming at least 29 lives in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena areas. Many families are struggling to find safe spaces for their children as schools have also been damaged.
Alice’s Kids is stepping in with a generous donation of about $175,000, aiming to sponsor over 800 students for prom. Typically, prom tickets range from $100 to $150, so this support will make a big difference for many seniors.
Ron Fitzsimmons, executive director of Alice’s Kids, shared his hopes for the initiative: “Prom should be a celebration, and we want to ease the burden for those whose lives have been disrupted by the fires.”
During a recent school assembly at John Muir High School, students erupted in cheers as they received the exciting news. Aveson Charter School is also among the schools benefiting from this initiative, as their campus for younger students was lost to the flames.
Carell has been involved in various efforts to support fire relief, including a recent hockey tournament in Los Angeles. He concluded his message to the students with encouragement: “Have fun, enjoy the prom. And remember, this is Steve Carell.”
