Stock Futures Climb as S&P 500 Faces Fourth Consecutive Loss: Stay Updated on Nvidia Earnings and Market Insights!

On March 5, 2024, traders were busy at the New York Stock Exchange. After a tough week, stock futures showed signs of hope on Wednesday morning. The S&P 500 had fallen for four days in a row, and now investors were looking forward to big earnings reports, especially from Nvidia.

Futures linked to the Dow Jones rose by 54 points (0.12%). The Nasdaq-100 futures jumped by 0.68%. The S&P 500 futures climbed 0.38%. This slight recovery followed a weak session from the previous day, where the S&P 500 dropped by 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite fell nearly 1.4%. Both indexes were on their fourth straight day of losses. The Dow stood out with an increase of about 0.4%.

On Tuesday, a disappointing consumer confidence report from the Conference Board put pressure on the markets. This news, along with weak retail sales figures and poor consumer sentiment, has worried traders about the economy’s direction.

Nvidia is expected to report its fourth-quarter earnings later on Wednesday. Many view this as a key moment for the company, especially with growing questions surrounding the artificial intelligence sector. Nvidia shares had already slid by over 5% in 2025, raising concerns about its future performance.

NYU finance professor Aswath Damodaran shared his thoughts on CNBC, predicting Nvidia might surprise analysts but still not meet overly high market expectations. This pattern echoes what happened in September when Nvidia exceeded expectations but still faced disappointment among investors.

Other companies reporting earnings include Lowe’s, TJX, and Salesforce. Investors are also looking out for economic data like new home sales and building permits. The big event of the week will be the release of the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index on Friday. The Federal Reserve closely watches the PCE as their main inflation metric, so its results could significantly impact the market.
