Stock Futures Steady as S&P 500 Marks First Winning Day in Three – Live Updates!

Traders were feeling a mix of hope and uncertainty in the stock market recently. On Wednesday evening, stock futures showed little movement as the S&P 500 slightly recovered from recent losses caused by tariff concerns. Futures for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 hovered near the flatline, while those tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped a small amount.

The recent tension stems from President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 50% tariff on Brazil. He stated this was partly in response to ongoing legal issues with former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Trump claimed that trade relations with Brazil were unfair and not reciprocal. In turn, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva promised to respond according to their economic laws.

Despite these worries, Wall Street saw gains earlier that day. The S&P 500 rose by 0.6%, while the Dow increased by 0.5%. The Nasdaq Composite, on the other hand, jumped 0.9% and reached a new record high. Much of this optimism came from investor excitement over advancements in artificial intelligence, particularly around companies like Nvidia. Its shares surged, briefly pushing its market valuation to $4 trillion.

Financial expert Jeremy Siegel from the Wharton School noted that AI developments could help cushion any negative impacts from tariffs. He pointed out that if the economic situation remains steady, the current bull market might continue to thrive, though potential challenges could introduce volatility.

Concerns about inflation and job impacts from tariffs were discussed in the minutes from the Federal Reserve’s recent meeting. Policymakers were divided on how many interest rate cuts might happen in the near future.

Looking ahead, many are keen to see jobless claims data coming out soon, which is expected to show a slight increase. Markets are closely monitoring these developments, seeking clarity amid the complicated landscape of trade and technology.
