To make lab visits smoother, our healthcare system is upgrading lab scheduling. You won’t need two separate appointments anymore for lab tests and primary care visits.
Now, you can walk in for lab work without an appointment. If you have a primary care appointment at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, arrive at least an hour early. Head to the Blood Draw Clinic in the basement for your blood draw. This way, you’ll have enough time to make it to your appointment comfortably.
While waiting for your appointment, you might even see your lab results on the My HealtheVet app. This allows your provider to discuss the results with you during your visit.
If you’re running late and can’t complete lab work 30 minutes before your appointment, don’t stress. Go to your appointment as scheduled; you can do your lab work afterward. Your results will be available via My HealtheVet and mailed to you. If you have questions, you can easily message your patient-aligned care team through the app.
For those using a Community Based Outpatient Clinic, plan on getting your lab work done after your primary care visit unless you’ve set up a scheduled lab appointment.
Need to ask your care team something? Direct messaging through My HealtheVet is the easiest way. If you’re unsure how, you can call 612-467-5636 for help. Alternatively, you can leave a message for your provider at 612-725-2000, option two.
If you’re not familiar with My HealtheVet, visit the Virtual Health Resource Center in the Flag Atrium next time you’re at the medical center. Volunteers are available to help you set up the app for direct access to your medical records and test results.
We appreciate your choice of VA for your healthcare needs. Your well-being is our priority, and we’re excited about these changes.
In addition, recent surveys show that more patients are leaning toward digital health tools. According to a 2022 report by the Pew Research Center, 70% of Americans have used online tools to manage their health. This trend emphasizes the need for accessible and user-friendly platforms like My HealtheVet. Embracing these tools not only makes healthcare easier but can lead to better health outcomes as patients become more engaged in their care.
By streamlining services and leveraging technology, we are creating a better experience for everyone involved.
