The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has strengthened coastal security with the commissioning of the ICG Ship ‘Amulya.’ This new ship, launched in Goa, is the third in a series of eight cutting-edge Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels. It highlights India’s commitment to maritime safety and showcases its indigenous shipbuilding talents.
At 51 meters long, ‘Amulya’ was designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). Over 60% of its components are locally sourced, reflecting India’s push for defense self-reliance through initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. The name ‘Amulya’ means “priceless,” embodying this commitment.
Powered by two advanced 3000 KW diesel engines, ‘Amulya’ can reach speeds of 27 knots and has an operational range of 1,500 nautical miles. Equipped with state-of-the-art indigenous weapons and systems, the vessel enhances the ICG’s capabilities in surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling, and pollution response.
The ship will call Paradip, Odisha, home and will be managed by Commandant (JG) Anupam Singh, who leads a crew of five officers and 34 personnel. The commissioning ceremony, attended by various officials including the Joint Secretary of the Indian Coast Guard, Shri Amitabh Prasad, underscored the importance of this new asset to maritime governance in India.
