External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently highlighted the strengthening partnership between India and the United States under the Trump administration. His comments came after he attended President Trump’s inauguration on January 20 as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Special Envoy, tasked with delivering a letter from the Prime Minister.

He emphasized that the current administration aims to enhance ties between the two nations and build upon the previous administration’s efforts.
Jaishankar also spoke about the importance of the Quad, which includes the US, India, Japan, and Australia. He felt a strong commitment from the new administration to continue advancing this strategic dialogue. He mentioned that discussions during the inauguration indicated a shared desire to intensify collaboration within the Quad framework.
Following the inauguration, Jaishankar met with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, marking one of Rubio’s first bilateral discussions in his new role. They connected over shared interests, reaffirming their commitment to further economic and strategic cooperation. They covered a range of topics, including regional issues and the potential for deepening the US-India partnership.
Jaishankar shared his excitement about their talks, tweeting that they reviewed their extensive collaboration and looked forward to building on it. He mentioned that the US is ready to work closely with India on defense, energy, and emerging technologies while addressing concerns related to irregular migration.
The relationship between India and the US has grown significantly over the years, particularly in trade and defense. Both nations recognize the importance of critical technologies and the goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The Indian American community plays a vital role in this partnership, with around 4.4 million Indian Americans in the US, including several in Congress, helping foster closer ties.
