On May 17, Nili Fish-Bieler ’26 proudly walked across the Commencement stage, marking a special milestone for her family as the third generation to graduate from Brandeis University. Her father, Ron Fish ’91, and grandmother, Joy Fish ’56, were there to celebrate this meaningful moment together.
Nili, who majored in mathematics, made the most of her time at Brandeis. She immersed herself in Jewish life, led her a cappella group, and was actively involved in theater, even taking on teaching assistant roles. “I’m grateful that I could explore so many different activities at Brandeis,” she said.
Ron, now associate director of the President’s Task Force on Antisemitism, echoed her sentiments. “Brandeis was a fantastic place to discover numerous opportunities,” he shared, reflecting on his own vibrant college experience.
Joy attended Brandeis in its early years and remembered how small and new the university felt. “Even as a freshman, I learned from some of the most respected professors,” she noted, emphasizing the strong academic foundation the young institution provided.
During her time at Brandeis, Joy also traveled to Israel, paving the way for future students to study abroad—a tradition that continues to hold significant value today. This rich family history highlights a unique connection to Brandeis, blending tradition with personal growth.
As Nili received her diploma, Ron and Joy cheered with pride, celebrating not just a graduation, but a legacy of learning and community spirit.
Brandeis continues to evolve, yet the sense of family and academic excellence remains strong. With nearly 70% of students involved in extracurricular activities, it’s clear that many, like Nili, find ways to make their college experiences memorable. The university encourages students to embrace varied experiences, shaping both their education and their lives.
