LOS ANGELES – Recent videos from USC show bugs on food served at campus dining locations. Annenberg Media, a student-led outlet, shared clips with images of insects crawling on meals.
One clip features a green bug infesting a salad at USC Village Dining Hall; another shows a maggot moving on food in Everybody’s Kitchen, as noted by Annenberg Media.
In response, USC issued a statement. Dirk de Jong, Assistant Vice President of USC Hospitality, emphasized their commitment to food safety. “We serve 30-40,000 meals daily and consistently receive high marks from health inspections,” he said. He also mentioned the school is investigating these reports and is working to improve inspection processes.
This incident has sparked conversations on social media, with students expressing concern about hygiene. Many are now more aware of the importance of food safety in university dining. A 2022 survey by the American College Health Association found that nearly 45% of college students are worried about the cleanliness of campus food facilities.
