According to a recent study by Reveal Marketing Research, a significant number of Romanians—84%—say the country’s economic situation has affected their daily lives. With rising costs, nearly half of those surveyed are cutting back on everyday expenses like food and clothing. Many are also holding off on big purchases and cancelling vacations.
The study, conducted online from August 14-20, 2025, involved 1,058 urban internet users aged 18 and older. It revealed that 51% of respondents see rising living costs as their top concern. Another 20% worry about high taxes, while 18% feel uncertain about the future.
Younger individuals, particularly those aged 18 to 34, are especially troubled about job opportunities. About 20% in this age group named a lack of promotional prospects as their biggest challenge. Emotional effects are also notable, with 30% of respondents feeling worried and 24% expressing insecurity.
Despite these challenges, there is a glimmer of hope. About 45% of Romanians are moderately optimistic about the economy bouncing back, though they expect it could take over a year. However, 41% doubt that conditions will improve in the next 12 months.
This situation mirrors broader economic trends seen in Europe, where many countries have struggled with inflation and rising costs. Recent European Central Bank reports indicate that inflation, although easing, is still a concern. Experts suggest that governments need to address these issues to restore confidence among citizens.
