Idaho Falls Donates Turkeys to Families in Need
As Thanksgiving approaches, Stukent, an edtech company in Idaho Falls, stepped in to support local families. They donated 100 turkeys to the Community Food Basket of Idaho Falls, just when it was needed most.
During a recent meeting of the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce, it became clear that the Community Food Basket was running low on food. This shortage echoed the struggles seen during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. When Stukent heard about this urgent need, their leadership immediately decided to help.
Finding enough turkeys close to the holiday wasn’t easy, but Broulim’s in Ammon quickly responded. They redirected 20 cases of turkeys from a Utah warehouse straight to Idaho Falls.
Ariel Jackson, the Executive Director of the Community Food Basket, expressed her gratitude when the shipment was confirmed. “This is a miracle—my freezers are empty. This is exactly what we needed,” she said.
Brennan Summers, Stukent’s vice president of corporate development, highlighted how the local community came together during this time. “This is a powerful reminder of what it means to live in a community where businesses and residents care for each other,” he noted.
The turkeys were delivered on Thursday and will be distributed to families ahead of Thanksgiving.
Community Impact
This act of kindness stands out, especially as food insecurity remains a pressing issue. According to Feeding America, food insecurity affects around 10.5% of households in the U.S. In Idaho, this number is even higher, with recent statistics showing that nearly 14% of residents face hunger.
The rise in food shortages can be tied to various factors, including inflation and the aftermath of the pandemic. As local organizations like the Community Food Basket work tirelessly to feed families, support from businesses like Stukent can truly make a difference.
In these challenging times, many on social media express their appreciation for such community efforts. A tweet from a local resident praised Stukent’s donation, calling it a “wonderful example of caring.”
Collaborative efforts like this remind us that, especially during the holidays, our community can come together to ensure that no one goes without.
