A recent twist in the case of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has emerged. Reports indicate that the suspected kidnapper might have scouted her home days before she went missing.
Doorbell camera footage shows a masked man at Guthrie’s home near Tucson, Arizona. Sources close to the investigation revealed that at least one image of this individual was captured before her abduction, which occurred on February 1. Initially, the FBI had stated that all images were from that day.
In one of the images, the suspect did not have a backpack or weapon, which is unusual since he was seen with both in other footage. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos noted that he did not provide this information and mentioned it was not confirmed as coming from the FBI.
The FBI’s investigation includes images of the suspect tampering with the doorbell camera. Some believe he may have initially backed away after noticing the camera before returning later to commit the crime.
Guthrie, 84, who is the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on January 31. She was reported missing the following day. The timeline surrounding her disappearance includes some concerning details: her doorbell camera went offline at 1:47 a.m., and a sighting was registered shortly after at 2:12 a.m., but without footage. Guthrie’s pacemaker also disconnected around 2:28 a.m.
In a chilling element to this case, purported abductors have sent ransom notes to the media, setting payment deadlines that have since passed. As of now, there is no identified suspect.
Recent surveys show that 80% of Americans believe that home security systems, including doorbell cameras, are crucial in preventing crime. Modern technology can play a significant role in solving these cases by providing critical evidence.
While the investigation continues, local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The public remains on edge, hoping for answers in this mysterious case. For ongoing updates, you can follow the FBI’s announcements on their official website.
