Stunning News: Jets QB Jordan Travis Announces Retirement – What’s Next for His Legacy?

Quarterback Jordan Travis has announced his retirement from the NFL, a decision influenced by a serious leg injury he suffered in his final college game.

Travis was drafted in the fifth round by the Jets in 2023. He played a pivotal role at Florida State, finishing fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting. His stats were impressive: he completed nearly 64% of his passes, throwing 20 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions, leading his team to an undefeated 11-0 season.

Reflecting on his journey, Travis shared, “On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I gave everything to rehab, but my leg didn’t respond as we hoped. After much prayer and consultation, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love.”

Travis began his recovery during rookie minicamp but was placed on the Non-Football Injury list in July 2024. By August, he had transitioned to the reserve/not-football list.

The Jets’ general manager, Darren Mougey, expressed sadness over the news. “It is unfortunate he couldn’t return after all his hard work. We fully support his decision and wish him the best.”

Originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, Travis started his college career at Louisville in 2018 before transferring to Florida State, where he became a standout player. He ranks second in school history for wins by a starting quarterback with a record of 28-10 and set records with 99 total touchdowns and over 10,600 yards of total offense.

In his time at FSU, Travis threw for 8,644 yards, secured 65 touchdowns, and had 19 interceptions across 46 games. Notably, he is the first Seminoles quarterback to achieve three wins against Miami and ended his career on a 17-game winning streak.

According to recent statistics, injuries are among the most significant reasons for early retirements in the NFL, with data showing that almost 50% of players face career-ending injuries. This highlights the stakes involved in every game and the harsh reality athletes like Travis face.
