Authorities later identified the man as 27-year-old Mohamed Riad. He was arrested and faces charges of assault, criminal mischief, and petty larceny. As of May 2023, there were 970 reported assaults against uniformed officers in NYC, a stark increase from 595 in the same month of 2019, prior to the pandemic.
